Popular television presenter James O’Loghlin will be giving a free public talk on how to balance your work and life this Monday, February 15 starting at 4pm (Qld time) at Southern Cross University’s new Gold Coast campus.

The presenter of the ABC’s The New Inventors and author of a new book on work/life balance will give the talk at the University during orientation week as guest of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Centre for Tourism, Leisure and Work.

James began performing stand-up comedy in 1990, initially emerging in the media as a regular guest on national television programs including Good News Week, Rove Live and Sunrise. He went on to write and host his own television shows, and he has also written and performed several popular live comedy shows including the smash hit ‘Lawyer Lawyer’, about his eight years as a corporate and criminal lawyer.

His latest book entitled ‘How to Balance Your Life’ is a practical step-by step guide aimed at helping people take concrete steps to improve the balance between work and leisure in their lives.

James will be sharing personal insights and tips from his book as well as taking a sometimes light hearted look at our busy modern lives.

”So often people use creativity, hard work and ingenuity every day in their work, and yet fail to use those same skills in shaping the rest of their lives,” said James.

“Is there a way of having a rewarding job that you do well, and still having enough time for the other things in life that are important?”

Southern Cross University’s Centre for Tourism, Leisure and Work is a new research centre set up to help provide an understanding of the interface between work and leisure. A key aim of the Centre is to engage with the community to help promote more sustainable lifestyles.

Director of the Centre Professor Kerry Brown said she was pleased to welcome James O’Loghlin to speak at Southern Cross University.

“We are delighted that James will be sharing his experiences and insights into the challenges we all face in balancing our busy lives,” said Professor Brown.

“He is a talented and versatile comedian, entertainer and communicator, so the audience will no doubt be assured of an amusing but also informative evening.

“We hope this will encourage people to think about the steps they can take to make their lives less stressful.”

James O’Loghlin will speak at Southern Cross University’s Gold Coast campus at Southern Cross Drive, Bilinga (access via Terminal Drive, Gold Coast Airport) in room A220 on Monday, February 15. A book sale and signing will take place at 4pm (Queensland time) followed by the public lecture at 5pm (Queensland time).

Bookings are essential. To attend, RSVP to carol.fitzsimmons@scu.edu.au before 12 noon on Monday February 15.
