The implications of the National Broadband Network for Coffs Harbour businesses and the community will be discussed at two free seminars being hosted by Southern Cross University on October 5.

Organised by the University’s Regional Futures Institute, the seminars will provide information for participants on how broadband technology can be used in areas including health, education and business.

The first seminar will be held from 2pm to 4pm and is aimed at members of the broader community. The second seminar, targeting business and industry, will be held from 5.15pm to 7.15pm.

The seminars will be led by Professor Peter Croll, Professor of Information Technology and Information Systems at Southern Cross University, and will include a presentation by NBN Co representative Glenn Holdstock.

The business seminar will also include a case study presentation by Mark Wolf from the award-winning company Greenspan Technology Pty Ltd.

Professor Croll, who led the submission for the early rollout of the National Broadband Network in this region, said the seminars were in response to community and industry requests for information on the implications of this new technology.

“We are really excited about the rollout of the NBN which will provide opportunities for regional businesses to flourish,” Professor Croll said.

“We will be providing information about how the NBN can be utilised in terms of health care, education, industry and environmental issues.

“Southern Cross University is also planning an e-Demo Centre, to provide local, rural and regional communities and industry with best-practice advice, access to information and communication technology (ICT) research and high-tech demonstrations.”

Professor Croll is also leading a Health-eRegions initiative, which focuses on providing world-leading ICT research facilities for improving the quality of life and health for individuals in regional communities in Australia.

The seminars are being held at the C.ex Coffs (Coffs Ex Services Club) on October 5. The community consultation is from 2pm to 4pm and the business and industry consultation will be held from 5.15pm to 7.15pm. For information contact
