Some of the best student surfers from Australia will contest the Southern Cross University King and Queen of the Campuses Surf Competition this Friday, May 11, at Cabarita Beach.

Male and female students from the Gold Coast, Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses will compete in the event organised by SCU Sports Management Surfing Studies class.

The top six students in the men’s and women’s divisions will represent SCU at the Australian University Games at Lennox Head from July 1 to 5. SCU won the men’s, women’s and overall divisions at last year’s Australian University Games.

Students of the University and the public are invited to the Cabarita competition, which will include entertainment throughout the day.

International student Sunny Fassler, who was raised in Switzerland and the USA before moving to Australia to study at Southern Cross University, said he was excited to use his skills to create a successful event.

“Organising this event is a great opportunity to gain further knowledge and experience in event management, and it will definitely help me to pursue a career within the surfing industry,” Mr Fassler said.

The Diploma of Sport Management (Surfing Studies) course has attracted students from France, Morocco, USA, Canada and South Africa.

Event: The King and Queen of the Campuses Surf Competition will take place in front of the Cabarita Surf Life Saving Club, located on the NSW Far North Coast, on Friday, May 11 from 8am. Media are invited to attend between 8am and 4pm.
