The art of interviewing for a job will be the topic of a Southern Cross University seminar at the Gold Coast campus on Friday, September 6.

The University’s Golden Key Chapter, along with the Office of Alumni and Development, will host Curtis Walter the founder and chief executive officer of Interview with Stature, along with a number of SCU alumni to give students advice on getting their dream job once they leave the University.

“During his years in recruiting, Curtis discovered candidates with good skills were denied job offers because of simple mistakes they made during their interviews,” SCU alumni relations manager Dan Sloan said.

“They had the backgrounds necessary to perform the jobs, yet had trouble convincing employers they were the best fit for the positions. Curtis built his company to guide job seekers quickly, affordably and successfully through the interview process.”

A former recruiter, Mr Walter has also had more than a decade in professional sales experience with pharmaceutical, automotive and telecommunications industries. He founded Interview with Stature in 2006.

Mr Walter is in Australia in his role as career liaison for The Golden Key International Honours Society. There are more than two million members in the alumni network. Golden Key is a United Nations of college students, advisors and alumni that brings together ambitious, scholarly, community-minded people from all walks of life.

Joining Mr Walter will be a host of high-achieving Southern Cross University alumni who will also speak. They include:

• Ann Schefe – Director Nursing and Midwifery for The Tweed Hospital and Murwillumbah District Hospital
• Lee Philipson – Regional Marketing Manager, Birch Carroll and Coyle and Independent filmmaker/director
• Rachael Muller – Primary School Teacher and winner of the 2013 Northern Territory Young Achievers Award and SCU 2013 Young Alumnus of the Year
• Susan Higginson – Principal Solicitor at the NSW Environmental Defenders Office and 2011 Law School Alumnus of the Year
• Josh Creighton – Managing Director at Fingerpaint
• Glenn Walker – Managing Director at Skateboarding Australia
• Amanda Nicholls – HR Director at Gold Coast Marriott Resort and Spa
• Simon Jupe – Managing Director at FishBowl Media

The seminar starts at 4.30pm and runs through to 7pm at the Gold Coast campus. A number of local high schools have been invited to attend.
