Spotlight on tourism education at SCU Sydney graduation

When 126 Southern Cross University students graduate in Sydney this weekend the University’s achievements in tourism education will shine bright.

Of those graduating, 84 students are from The Hotel School Sydney and the School of Business and Tourism.

The Hotel School Sydney is run in partnership with Mulpha Australia.

Paul Weeks, The Hotel School Sydney’s director of Academic Studies, said the partnership had created a progressive and innovative learning environment.

“The Hotel School Sydney delivers a Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management and a Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management and is a major player in the hospitality industry,” Mr Weeks said.

“Our applied programs focus on hotel management skills, management practices in hospitality industries and the skills needed for employment in a modern, dynamic and competitive global environment.”

Students from the University’s Schools of Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Environment, Science and Engineering, Health and Human Sciences, Law, and Gnibi College of Indigenous Australian People will also be graduating at the ceremony, with one Doctorate to be awarded.

Awards will be conferred by the Chancellor Mr Nick Burton Taylor AM.

The occasional address will be delivered by Lisa Charet, the NSW Department of Family and Community Services district director for western Sydney, and 2014 Southern Cross University Outstanding Alumnus of the Year.
