Coffs Harbour teachers, parents and anyone interested in the future of our education system is invited to a free public lecture with guest speaker Oxford University Professor of Teacher Education Ian Menter.
The seminar is being hosted by Southern Cross University on Thursday, July 23.
Governments across Australia, like those in other developed countries, are putting increased focus on improving the educational outcomes of their education systems. Central to their improvement goal is a focus on quality teaching. But what does this all mean for schools, teachers and society and what is likely to be achieved in the context of current government policies?
Professor Menter, who is an Adjunct Professor at Southern Cross University and President of the prestigious British Educational Research Association (BERA), is the author of many systemic reports into teaching and teacher education. He will provide insights on the future of teaching and teacher education during a talk titled: ‘Making connections in globalised education: research, teacher education and improvement’.
Professor David Lynch, head of Coffs Harbour campus and Professor of Education, said the talk was a wonderful opportunity to hear from one of the world’s leading education experts.
“Professor Menter has authored numerous papers and advised governments on educational systems, providing him with a unique perspective on the future of teaching and teacher education,” Professor Lynch said.
“As both the federal and state governments are now looking closely at the quality of our teachers and our education systems, this talk is very timely. I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest in the future of education, whether as a parent or a teacher.”
Professor Menter will also be working with Professor Lynch and members of the SCU School of Education’s Teacher Education Research Group on research projects focused on the future of teaching and teacher education.
The talk will be held at Southern Cross University’s Coffs Harbour campus on Thursday, July 23, at 5pm in room A.G.19/A.G.20. RSVP to Julie Flanigan on 6659 3341 or julie.flanigan@scu.edu.au
