Did someone say free breakfast, puppies and live music?
Orientation for Session 2 is fast approaching for new Southern Cross University students, who will be able to join a club, play with puppies and chill out with live performances while learning all about how to have the best student experience across three days this week from July 6 to 8.
Lismore will kick off orientation activities on Wednesday, July 6 with a free pancake breakfast from 7am, bubble soccer, free lunch, live music and market stalls thanks to the LEXSA (Lismore and External Students Association) and an open mic night and 2 Dollar tacos.
A photo booth will provide hours of fun in the Lismore Unibar from midday Thursday. Circus and hula hoop workshops, henna tattoos and show bag giveaways will be held on Friday with free lunch, live music and markets across all three days.
All campuses will host a welcome to country with Aboriginal elders to pay respect to the traditional custodians in each region.
Gold Coast students will be treated to free breakfast and snack packs from 8.30am each day, hosted by CoastRs student association. On Wednesday newcomers enjoy a day of arts and crafts, giveaways, free BBQ lunch, hula and ukulele performances, typography, and the fusion cafe to meet the staff with games, cultural trivia, mystery tea tasting, caption comp, moral dilemmas and charades.
The Animal Welfare League will bring their beautiful puppies and dogs, which are up for adoption, to the Gold Coast campus for students to enjoy some puppy play time on the grass from 12pm each day, while Triple J Unearthed Laneway winners 'Good Boy' will perform in the marquee on Wednesday from 5pm – a free student event with food provided.
The free lunches, live music, art and craft and puppy play time continue on Thursday and Friday at the Gold Coast campus, with pro skateboarders showing off their tricks from midday on Thursday with free fairy floss for spectators. A free postgraduate student luncheon will be held simultaneously in the marquee from 12.30pm hosted by the Southern Cross Postgraduate Association (SCPA) and free pizzas will be delivered at lunchtime on Friday to round out a stellar week of events.
Coffs Harbour campus will also host free lunch, information stalls and entertainment from 12pm followed by campus tours, staff greets and workshops. Every campus will host tours, course information sessions, technology services workshops, study and career advice, library resource sessions, and will assist students in obtaining ID cards and parking permits where necessary.
Gold Coast will also offer free 10-minute massages and Lismore will have gym and pool happy hour each day at 2pm.
