Southern Cross University appoints a new Academic lead

Southern Cross University has announced the appointment of Professor Tyrone Carlin as its new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic).

Professor Carlin comes to Southern Cross from the University of Sydney, where he is Professor of Financial Regulation and Reporting. His impressive academic and senior management record includes positions as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Registrar), Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education Operations) and Co-Dean of the University of Sydney Business School. He was Dean of Law at Macquarie University before joining the University of Sydney.

Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said he was delighted to announce Professor Carlin's appointment after an extensive international search.

"Tyrone brings a depth of experience to the role, through both his academic and business engagements, that will further propel Southern Cross as Australia’s Engaged University," Professor Shoemaker said.

"We are looking forward to working with Tyrone and his team on progressing the critical strategic activities of the Academic portfolio and, together with our Executive team, in strengthening the University’s academic and financial future."

Professor Carlin holds an LLB (Hons I) and LLM from the University of Sydney and is the recipient of the Law Graduates Association Medal in Law. He holds a B Com (Accounting, Finance) and MCom (Hons) (Accounting) from the University of New South Wales and a PhD from Macquarie University. His academic interests include contract and commercial law, financial reporting and public financial management.

He will be based at the University's Lismore campus and commences on the 12 November.
