Southern Cross University named in Asia-Pacific’s Top 100

The University has leapt 10 places, up from rank 92 in 2017, showing its endeavours in the region are making an impact.

The second annual Asia Pacific ranking, released this morning by Times Higher Education, ranked more than 240 universities on criteria including research, citations and teaching.

Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said the ranking was a terrific result for Southern Cross.

“This is a testament to all of our wonderful staff who, day in and day out, deliver teaching and research of the highest quality,” he said.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) Professor Susan Nancarrow said the ranking was recognition of the University’s significant research achievements which include collaborations in the Asia Pacific.

“Our world-leading researchers are working in the region on exciting projects including coral reef restoration, boosting sea cucumber stocks, organics and sustainable farming, honey production, investigating the development of marine molluscs for human medicine, sustainable forestry industry work and analysing radium isotope samples from frozen waterways. The breadth of Southern Cross University research contributes to excellence in a diverse range of disciplines and delivers impact for end users across the Asia Pacific region and the world,” Professor Nancarrow said.

“Southern Cross University welcomes new opportunities to partner with research organisations, universities and agencies to further build international collaborations which will deliver the solutions to the Asia Pacific region.”

Southern Cross University, celebrating its 25th year in 2019, has campuses at Coffs Harbour and Lismore on the NSW North Coast, Bilinga on Queensland’s Southern Gold Coast and online.

Southern Cross was recently named as one of the top 100 young universities in the world in the 2018 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, and outperformed many metropolitan universities in the federal government’s latest Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) data where it rated above the national average in key areas for student experience, graduate satisfaction and graduate employment.
