Australia Council grant awarded to Southern Cross researcher

Dr Hill’s success in the latest grant round, worth $19,616, is for ‘A mentorship to develop curatorial research skills, accessing art archives in Brisbane and New York’. 

“Thanks to the support from the Australia Council, I’ll develop my skills as an art writer, researcher and independent curator,” said Dr Hill who’s based at the University’s Lismore campus.

“The project will see me undertaking research for a 2020 publication on ‘hyper-ethics’ in contemporary art, surveying the common ways in which topical moral issues have been represented in major museum exhibitions over the last decade.”

Dr Hill will be accessing the research libraries and art collections of QAGOMA in Brisbane and, in New York, the Whitney Museum, New Museum and Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York). 

In January 2020 he will develop a curatorial rationale for an exhibition on the same theme as the in-progress publication.

“This will be worked on with Dr Rosemary Hawker from Griffith University, whose experience will help in developing my skills as a ‘curator-researcher’ – a burgeoning form of contemporary practice that combines curatorial practice with more traditional art-history skills,” Dr Hill said.
