Southern Cross University's internationally renowned contemporary music degree is expanding – and that's sweet music for students.
From 2020, the Bachelor of Contemporary Music will be offered on the Gold Coast.
Operating from Coomera Creative Campus in the city's north, the music degree will work in harmony with the program out of Southern Cross University's Lismore campus.
Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said it provided a wonderful opportunity to offer not only the music degree but also its Bachelor of Digital Media and Communications and Bachelor of IT to Gold Coast students from state-of-the-art facilities.
“Our Coolangatta campus at Gold Coast Airport is one of the fastest growing in Queensland and now with a northern Gold Coast offering Southern Cross University is moving to ensure that growth continues,” Professor Shoemaker said.
Contemporary Music course coordinator Dr Matt Hill said the Coomera Creative Campus featured some of the best performance/production equipment and facilities in Queensland.
“The Gold Coast has a vibrant contemporary music scene and it will be great to be able to offer the program to aspiring musicians in the area," Dr Hill said.
Southern Cross University was the first university in Australia to offer a Bachelor of Contemporary Music, initially introduced in 1986 when it was known as the Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education in Lismore. Since then it has produced many national and international music successes including The Voice musical director Scott Aplin.
