The Hotel School, a long-standing and ground-breaking partnership between Southern Cross University and hotel giant Mulpha Australia, has expanded into Brisbane, giving tourism and hospitality students an advantage ahead of future tourism developments in Queensland expected to create thousands of additional jobs.

Australia’s leading hotel management course specialist's launch of a state-of-the-art campus in the heart of Brisbane will cater for major expected growth in Queensland tourism.

A ground-breaking partnership between Southern Cross University and hotel giant Mulpha Australia, The Hotel School is the only education provider in Australia formed through a partnership between a public university and global hotel investment group.

Southern Cross University Vice Chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said today's launch of the Brisbane campus was a pivotal moment for both The Hotel School and the University.

“Southern Cross University is a leader in the hotel and tourism management field with outstanding rankings and graduate employment outcomes. Key to this success is our alignment to a premium brand in Mulpha Australia bringing industry expertise and practical experience benefits to our students at The Hotel School,” he said.

“The joint venture between Southern Cross and Mulpha is one of longest-standing and most successful industry-academic partnerships in Australia. Earlier this year both parties celebrated 30 years of outstanding hotel management degrees and careers.

“By aligning with a premium brand in Mulpha Australia, The Hotel School enables students to draw on their learning right from the start of their studies and potentially undertake internships and employment opportunities in some of the world’s most prestigious hotels.

“That is invaluable for people looking to make a career in hotel and tourism management.”

The launch of The Hotel School’s Brisbane campus comes ahead of Queensland tourism developments such as Queen’s Wharf and the proposed Brisbane Live precinct, which are set to create thousands of additional jobs – 20,000 jobs in 2020 alone.

Mulpha Australia CEO Greg Shaw said such projections reinforce the importance for the hospitality industry to support the education and training of qualified recruits.

“The Hotel School allows students to develop their leadership skills and learn about hotel operations at Mulpha-owned properties during a rotational schedule, on-the-job training and mentoring,” said Mr Shaw, whose portfolio includes InterContinental Sydney, InterContinental Hayman Island and InterContinental Sanctuary Cove.

“We also have strategic alliances with major global hotel groups including Marriott, Accor and TFE that last year allowed us to provide more than 8000 industry experience opportunities specifically tailored for our graduates and interns.”

The Hotel School’s existing campuses in Melbourne and Sydney boast a 95 percent employment rate within six months of graduation, with almost 70 percent of students finding employment prior to graduation.

Sofitel Brisbane Central held a pre-launch event in October to introduce The Hotel School to industry professionals. General Manager of Sofitel Brisbane Central, Hayden Hughes, said the luxury hotel is very proud to be partnering with Australia’s leader in hotel management education.

“As Brisbane’s most established and largest luxury hotel, Sofitel Brisbane Central hopes to continue a strong relationship with The Hotel School and their students as they progress in their hotel career.” he said.

“Hotels have great synergy with schools and education. The truth is, we are all still students and learning every day from our guests and colleagues. Hotels have always been - and will continue to be, a dynamic, agile and ever evolving environment where we are meeting different people from all walks of life. It’s an exciting time to be part of a thriving industry!”

Classes commenced at The Hotel School’s Brisbane campus on November 4.
