Southern Cross hosts state girl’s football championship

Around 200 players will be in action at the University’s Southern Cross Football Centre from today (May 21), with matches over three days (May 21 to 23).

Southern Cross Football Centre General Manager Scott Collis is excited to host such a big event.

“Southern Cross Football Centre is operated as a community initiative of the University promoting education and participation so we are really pleased to partner with the PSSA to deliver this event in Lismore,” Mr Collis said.

“We expect around 400 players, parents and officials each day and we hope this leads to more such events in years to come.”

And it promises to be a true community event with the Lismore City Council and charitable originations joining with the University to showcase what Lismore can deliver.

“Lismore City Council has been fantastic in helping with equipment while the Westpac Rescue Helicopter will be on hand with a BBQ,” said Mr Collis.

“We are also proud to have mobile food van ‘The Chip Inn with Jase’ serving hot chips while promoting an important message on mental health.”

Set up in memory of former Lennox Head resident and Lismore City Centre Manager Jason Mumford, The Chip In with Jas gives 100% of profits back to the community while raising awareness about mental health.

Matches will be played all day from 8am – 3pm each day.
