SCU Fusion Festival 2012

Southern Cross University's Fusion Festival celebrates cultural diversity at the University and in the community. The festival theme is 'UNIty in diVERSITY: the coming together of cultures and communities' and is scheduled to take place on Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Gold Coast Tweed SCU campuses from 20-24 August. Gold Coast Tweed Heads has planned one-day celebrations, events in Lismore will be over three days and Coffs Harbour will span a period of three days.

The Fusion Festival is free, open to the public and aims to further intercultural understanding and communal harmony through interaction in various forms - from cultural to social, intellectual and sporting events.

Harmony Day

In 2012, the Harmony Day theme Sport - play, engage, inspire recognises the important role and positive influence that sport has in our multicultural nation. Involvement in sport whether as a participant, volunteer, spectator or administrator unites people of all ages and fosters a sense of belonging, acceptance and an understanding of other cultures. All staff, students and the community are invited to attend.

Harmony Day will be celebrated at each campus on Wednesday 21 March

Lismore Campus from 11.00am - 1.00pm in Goodman Plaza, and will include;

  • Soccer....staff vs students. The soccer match will run from 12pm to 12.30pm on the oval.
  • Games in the Plaza including; Basketball, Table-tennis, Badminton, Handball Footy, Chess and Mancala
  • There will be fruit, muesli bars, trail mixes and water available
  • Mindfulness, Meditation & Relaxation Group in Zest (UNIBar Building) from 12noon to 1.00pm - no prior experience necessary

Gold Coast and Tweed Heads Campus from 12noon - 2.00pm (QLD time) at Lakeside, and will include;

  • Food from around the world
  • A traditional Aussie BBQ
  • Sports - Bocci, Volleyball, Tug-of-War

Coffs Harbour Campus from 10.00am - 1.00pm in the Gathering Space, and will include;

  • Multi Award Winning International Face and Body Artist - Faerie Emilie
  • International side show games
  • 3 Craft tables
  • Yummy food and lots of prizes!!!!
