After completing a Bachelor of Science (Architecture) at the University of Sydney in 1977, Jonathan worked in IT sales for six years for large international corporations in Sydney and London), selling systems solutions to the insurance and banking sectors

From 1985 to 2015 Jonathan enjoyed a 30-year career at Macquarie Group. Following five years in foreign exchange Jonathan’s career was focussed on resource and commodity finance businesses, originating transactions for the Bank’s balance sheet, originating and managing client relationships, and managing and developing staff teams. Jonathan served as an Executive Director of Macquarie from 1999.

Jonathan has extensive experience in financial markets, risk management, lending, transaction structuring, contract negotiation and dispute resolution. He served as chairman of the supervisory board of a private German renewable energy company from 2009 to 2013, representing Macquarie interests as that entity’s largest investor.

During his last six years at Macquarie, in London, Jonathan also served as an Integrity Officer for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. In this role he was a confidential contact point for staff with concerns about potential breaches of Macquarie’s Code of Conduct, or more general integrity issues. He was also the inaugural executive sponsor for a group of women executives in Macquarie London, creating programs and policies to empower and develop female staff within the context of the firm’s broader diversity policies.

Jonathan lives in Sydney, and is married with three adult sons.

Jonathan is the Chair of the University’s Finance and Investment Committee.
