Dr Nedeljka Rosic

Dr Nedeljka (Nela) Rosic is a multidisciplinary researcher and academic leader in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, where she has served as Deputy and Acting Chair of the Faculty of Health Board, Deputy Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee and staff representative. Through these roles, she contributes to strategic leadership, governance and decision-making across research, education, innovation and technology.
Dr Rosic holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Queensland and is a former Australian Research Council (ARC) DECRA Fellow. She has extensive experience leading multidisciplinary research projects and national and international collaborations across academia, industry and government, including partnerships with CSIRO. Her research spans biomedical innovation, medicinal bio-products, biotechnology, skin cancer, natural marine sunscreens, genomics, protein engineering and drug discovery, with a strong focus on translating research into practical health, environmental and commercial outcomes.
Dr Rosic's research and innovation have received competitive funding and international recognition, including the ARC DECRA, CSIRO ON Accelerate Innovation Program and NASA iTech Innovation Award. She has published extensively in high-impact journals and established international collaborations in marine biotechnology and sustainable natural products technologies.
A strong advocate for community engagement and STEM education, Dr Rosic has delivered numerous school and public presentations to inspire students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue higher education and STEM careers. Her leadership brings together research excellence, strategic governance, innovation, collaboration and community impact.
Dr Rosic also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biological Sciences (Master by Research and Master by Coursework) - The University of Belgrade, Serbia and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with Hon-First Class in Molecular Biology and Physiology - The University of Belgrade, Serbia.
