Vivienne Roberts-Bangga

Vivienne Roberts-Bangga is a proud Widjabul Wia-bal descendant of the Bundjalung Nation, born and raised on Country in Lismore, Northern New South Wales. She maintains strong cultural, community and family connections across the Bundjalung region and to Vanuatu, her husband’s homeland.

Vivienne is a highly respected and valued member of her community, with longstanding involvement with the Ngulingah Local Aboriginal Land Council and strong relationships across Aboriginal communities throughout the Bundjalung region. She is recognised for her commitment to community, particularly her advocacy for the wellbeing, safety and educational aspirations of Aboriginal children and young people. Vivienne is passionate about creating environments in which young people feel culturally safe, supported and empowered to pursue their goals.

Her commitment to education is reflected in her longstanding career at Southern Cross University, where she has proudly served the University for more than 20 years. Vivienne currently works within the Indigenous Australian Student Services (IASS) unit as Senior Student Management Officer and ITAS Coordinator, supporting Indigenous students and contributing to culturally responsive educational pathways and support.

Vivienne graduated from Southern Cross University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Indigenous Studies. Her own educational journey informs her strong belief that universities can be places where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students feel a genuine sense of belonging, cultural safety and possibility. Alongside her professional and community commitments, Vivienne is the NTEU representative for Indigenous members, advocating for the interests, recognition and rights of Indigenous staff within the university sector. Through her work, community involvement and leadership, Vivienne continues to model the importance of education, cultural strength, advocacy and connection, and is regarded as a positive role model by many people in her community.
