From March 6, Southern Cross University's Coffs Harbour campus will host Practical Legal Training (PLT) from the largest provider of practice-focused legal education in Australasia, the College of Law. PLT is a requirement for all law graduates who wish to be admitted to practise in Australia.
A spokesperson for the College said: “The Coffs Harbour PLT program offers the best of both worlds – the convenience of online study and the opportunity to attend face-to-face workshops in Coffs Harbour with your friends and colleagues.”
Dean of Law at Southern Cross University, Associate Professor David Heilpern, welcomed the PLT program first for Coffs Harbour.
“For years, many of our graduates have had to travel to Sydney to attend the College of Law,” he said.
“We are very excited to be able to facilitate the College on the north coast, enhancing our law offerings at Southern Cross University. We hope this will be a regular occurrence, with options for our Lismore campus in the future.”
The Coffs Harbour PLT will be divided into Coursework, Work Experience and Continuing Professional Education. Participants will complete five compulsory subjects – Civil Litigation, Commercial and Corporate Practice, Ethics and Professional Responsibility, Lawyers’ Skills, and Property Practice.
They will also choose two electives from Administrative Law, Banking and Finance, Consumer Law, Criminal Law, Employment and Industrial Law, Family Law, Planning and Environmental Law, and Wills and Estates.
