Outstanding educators, brilliant students and the best in research were recognised at the annual Faculty of Education Awards last week.
Eighty-eight students made the Dean’s Honour List this year with a GPA of 6.5 or above.
Dr Simone Blom was named the Early Career Researcher of the Year, while Professor Sue Walker, who has recently been appointed to the Australian Research College of Experts, was named the Faculty’s Researcher of the Year.
A collaborative research publication entitled "Propositional A/r/tography: An Analytical Protocol" published in the Journal of Qualitative Inquiry by Professor Lexi Lasczik, Associate Lecturer Katie Hotko, Professor Amy Cutter-Mackenzie-Knowles, and Tahlia McGahey was recognised as the 2022/23 Outstanding Research Publication, determined by journal rank and Field Weighted Citation Impact.
A Higher Degrees by Research publication shared the limelight with "Out of tune: Perceptions of, engagement with, and responses to mental health interventions by professional popular musicians—A scoping review" published in Psychology of Music by Amy Visser, Dr Megan Lee, Timothy Barringham, Dr Nasim Salehi taking top honours.
The Professional Staff Award for Service was awarded to Senior Curriculum and Accreditation Coordinator Kim Fischer, acknowledging her work that goes above and beyond to provide exceptional service and continuity in extraordinary circumstances.
Faculty of Education academics proved they walk the talk when it comes to education. Three academics were named Educators of the Year with the highest mean student feedback of the last 12 months: Dr Aidan Coleman, Patrick Bruck and Dr Lisa Siegel. Commendations in the same category went to Stella O’Toole, Robyn Edwards and Amy Mills.
Special student recognition included the Byron Writers Festival Prize to Margaret Andrew and Casey Egan, while the SAGE Award for Service acknowledged the service of the Student Advisory Group for Education (SAGE) leadership team – Josie Hockey, Benjamin Hockey, Angela Ashcroft, Riley Barrett, Bridget Brosi, Luke Hammond, Gemma Betty and Fiona Brown.
