Southern Cross University has a longstanding rivalry with Griffith University Gold Coast. Whether this has been at local intervarsity competitions or at the national level at UniSport Nationals. This rivalry has since evolved into an annual tournament known as the Battle of the Border!
In 2026, the Battle of the Border will return and Southern Cross University is looking to win back the Battle of the Border Shield from Griffith University. The sports that will be contested at the Battle of the Border will be:
- Men's and Women's Basketball
- Mixed and Women's Netball
- Mixed Touch Football
- Mixed Oz Tag
- Men's and Women's Indoor Volleyball
This event is open to all Southern Cross University students from all campuses.

Event Location
The Battle of the Border [SCU vs. GU] will be held at the Gold Coast Recreation Precinct in Palm Beach.
