Formerly known as the National Indigenous Tertiary Education Games (NITESG), this event originally started as a class venture between 13 students from the Wollotuka School for Aboriginal Studies, The University of Newcastle. The event was designed to bring together indigenous student-athletes from universities across Australia to compete in a variety of sports.
In 2026, the 30th Indigenous Nationals will be held from 29 June - 3 July at The Wollotuka Institute at The University of Newcastle, NSW. Team SCU participates annually in this event and competes in four sports; touch football, basketball, netball, and volleyball.
This event will see over 500 indigenous students-athletes and staff members from 42 universities across Australia attend and is an amazing environment to not only celebrate the rich sporting culture of indigenous Australia but to also acknowledge the heritage and history of participating student-athletes.
This event is only open to Indigenous students and staff members of Southern Cross University to represent Team SCU.
