Applying for HEA Fellowship

You are eligible to apply if you support student learning at Southern Cross University, either directly or indirectly. This includes a wide range of academic and professional roles. Any application fee may be covered by your faculty or work unit, depending on local arrangements.

Your submission includes a written application that aligns your teaching practice to the relevant Professional Standards Framework descriptor, with specific requirements depending on your Fellowship category. The Content Submission table summarises the key components and word limits for each category.

You do not need to submit separate evidence documents. Instead, include relevant examples from your current and recent work (within the last three years) directly in your written reflective narrative. These examples should clearly demonstrate your teaching practice and impact.

You will be assigned a mentor after you submit an application Expression of Interest form through the staff resources area. Your mentor is an SCU staff member who already holds HEA Fellowship and will guide you throughout your application. You can also contact the Centre for Teaching and Learning for additional support if needed.

Yes, there is a fee payable when you submit your application to Advance HE. Southern Cross University receives a discounted rate through its Advance HE membership. The Fees table shows the current approximate fees.

Most applicants complete the process within around six months from starting their application. Your timeline will depend on how quickly you prepare your submission. The Centre for Teaching and Learning invites expressions of interest twice a year to allocate mentors and funding, but you can start earlier if you arrange your own mentor.
