Theses

PDF Thesis deposit and verification form

Link Thesis request form

Theses passed by the Higher Degree Research Committee at Southern Cross University are deposited into ePublications@SCU. These records are then harvested into the Trove online search engine developed by the National Library of Australia. Access to the digital version of theses from all Australian Universities is available through this service.

How to find theses

You can go directly to a list of SCU theses submitted by SCU students and simply click on the thesis to view it. You can also search for theses in Trove. Once you reach a specific thesis, you can download it as a PDF file. This file may be read on screen or printed, but cannot be copied. Ensure you abide by the University plagiarism rules when using theses.

How to submit your thesis

  1. If your PhD or Masters thesis was completed at Southern Cross University and your thesis has been passed by the Higher Degrees Research Committee, you must deposit your thesis into ePublications@SCU.
  2. If other people's work is included in your thesis, there are copyright implications you must address. If you cannot get permission from the copyright owner to reproduce their work, it must be removed from the copy to be submitted to ePublications@SCU. Generally, you will own the copyright to your work, and submission to ePublications@SCU will not change that, but there are some exceptions. If copyright has been transferred to someone else, you will have to get their permission to publish in ePublications@SCU.
  3. You must provide an electronic version of your final thesis (in pdf, doc or rtf format) to the Division of Research when you submit the paper copies required at the completion of examination. The electronic copy must be additional (and identical, apart from copyright removals as per step 1) to the paper copies required by the Library.
  4. The process of including your thesis will be carried out by Library staff in consultation with you. You will also need to provide a completed deposit and verification form with the copy of your thesis.

What happens to paper versions of theses?

One copy of every Southern Cross University PhD or Masters thesis (in loose leaf format) is stored securely in the Library Archives. A second copy is fully catalogued and made available on open, public access for consultation or photocopying, subject to University Rules. You may purchase a copy of an SCU thesis using the Thesis Request Form. The cost of a thesis is a minimum of $AUS71.50.

Restricting the availability of a thesis

Access to theses may be completely restricted for a defined period of up to 24 months (see University Rules). Restricted theses will have citation and abstract data made available, but not the full thesis. Once the full thesis is published in ePublications@SCU, there is no restriction on who may access it.
