The Blues teams currently compete in QFA (Div2), QFA Colts and the Bluebird's teams compete in QWAFL and QWFA division 1 of the AFL Queensland State League at its home ground Len Peak Oval.

The Southern Cross University Rugby Club is the oldest student-run organisation at the University. The Gold Rats have been a successful student-run club during its existence winning 16 premierships across all grades, including four in first grade.

Based at the SCU Fitness for You, this group does squad training and participates in community events such as the Byron Bay Ocean Swim Classic and Australian University National Championships. Classes are at 6:30am Monday, Wednesday and Friday and are suitable for all swimming levels. All staff on the Pool deck are Life Guard trained and qualified.
