21 Days of Wellness Challenge

Kick start your year off on the right foot by joining SCU's 21 Days of Wellness Challenge.  

Receive a new challenge every day for 21 days, as well as a reminder to increase your daily activity and reach your 10,000 steps every day.

The challenge has now been run for 2022. WHS look forward to offering the challenge again in 2023. 

Campus lunch walking groups

Join one of your friendly campus representatives for a low intensity walk around campus. Lunch time walks will go for approximately 30mins. It is recommended you wear a hat and sunscreen and take a water bottle.

Fitness Passport

As one of our amazing SCU employees, you can take advantage of our Fitness Passport program where you pay one membership and are able to access any Fitness Passport associated facilities whenever you like, as often as you like; even sign up the family to join the fun.

Flu prevention

Influenza is contagious and more serious than the common cold. To prepare for this flu season and prevent the spread of the flu, here are some tips:

  • Get a flu shot (refer to Staff flu vaccination program for when vaccinations are being offered at your campus).
  • Sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean/wash your hands.
  • Stay at home if sick.

Lifeblood Tertiary Blood Challenge

Join the Lifeblood Tertiary Blood Challenge and donate blood or plasma. Complete the Lifeline Blood Donation Enrolment Form found on the Australian Red Cross Website and be sure to inform Lifeblood that you are part of the SCU Community! Mental Health Month

Every October is Mental Health Month.  Mental health issues and illness can affect people of all ages, all walks of life and comes in may different forms. Mental Health Month aims at shining the spot light on Mental Health, raising awareness, raising funds for research and encouraging conversations. National Safe Work Month

In October of each year, SafeWork Australia raise the importance of workplace health and safety through National Safe Work Month. You can make sure you and your teammates are keep safe all year round by:

 

  • Reporting any hazards, incidents or accidents to the WHS Team
  • Keeping yourself informed by reviewing the emergency procedures available online
  • Checking in on your work mates regularly

Staff flu vaccination program

The WHS team, in conjunction with the SCU Health Clinic, are pleased to have been able to offer SCU employees free influenza vaccinations again in 2022. The 2022 vaccination program has now been run and we look forward to offering the program again in 2023.

Experts have long known that volunteering is great for our health and wellbeing - both physically and mentally.  To get involved in your community and to support the volunteering effort, please visit Volunteering Australia.

Wellbeing Gateway

Assure have invested significant time to understand the key priorities and needs of individuals and have built Wellbeing Gateway to be a pocket companion to help individuals thrive at work, in health and life.

 

  • The app is a great way for employees and their family members to access support, coaching and resources when and where they need it.  Wellbeing Gateway is all about reducing stigma, encouraging individuals to take greater accountability for their individual health and wellbeing, and providing immediate access to support.
  • A wide range of engaging programs and activities to support wellbeing.
  • Resources in article, video and audio format in areas such as parenting, home and family, health, emotional issues, work life, money matters and much more.
  • Relaxation tools to aid good health.
  • Ability to Chat with one of our experienced health professionals at the touch of a button.

Work unit ergonomic assessments

 

The Workplace Health and Safety Team will be conducting ergonomic assessments for different Work Units throughout the year. Ergonomic Assessments ensure that your workstation is ergonomically designed to minimise the risk of injury and maximise your comfort at work.
