Travis Walker

Travis Walker is Chief Financial Officer at Southern Cross University, with responsibility for the University's financial management, planning, reporting and performance. His portfolio includes statutory and regulatory reporting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury, taxation, payroll, procurement, travel, and financial analysis that supports strategic decision-making across the University.

With more than 20 years of experience in the higher education sector, including 13 years at Southern Cross University, Travis is recognised for his financial leadership, commercial insight and expertise in governance, risk management and organisational performance. Working closely with the Vice-President (Finance and Technology), he plays a key role in supporting the University's financial sustainability and long-term strategic priorities.

Prior to his current role, Travis held senior finance positions at leading Australian universities, including Deputy Director of Finance at RMIT University, where he was responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial performance reporting and commercial analysis. He also served for seven years as Director, Financial Performance at Deakin University.

In addition to his leadership responsibilities at Southern Cross University, Travis serves as a board member of Southern Cross Campus Services Limited and Southern Cross Ventures Limited. He was Chair of the Regional University Network in 2025 and previously served as Chair of the Australian University Finance Officers Group in 2017 and 2018. He is also a board member and Chair of the Finance Committee for a private tertiary education organisation based in Melbourne.

Travis holds a Master of Business Administration from La Trobe University, a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from RMIT University, and is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).
