Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)
Professor Julie Jomeen
Professor Julie Jomeen is Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Southern Cross University and a member of the University’s Executive Leadership Team. She is responsible for shaping the University’s learning and teaching strategy and has executive oversight of the University’s academic faculties and colleges, leading academic quality, curriculum renewal and initiatives that enhance student experience and graduate outcomes across the institution.
A UK-registered nurse and midwife, Professor Jomeen is an internationally recognised researcher in midwifery, women’s health, and perinatal mental health. Her research focuses on maternal wellbeing and the psychological aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, contributing to improved understanding of how health systems support women and families during pregnancy and early parenthood.
Professor Jomeen moved into academia following clinical practice and completion of her PhD at the University of Leeds. Prior to joining Southern Cross University in 2020, she held senior academic leadership roles at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom, including Dean of Health and Social Care and Dean of Health Sciences, where she led large multidisciplinary portfolios spanning health, medicine, psychology and biomedical sciences and provided research leadership to support growth in health research capability and outcomes.
At Southern Cross University, Professor Jomeen served as Executive Dean of Health, leading the Faculty through a period of growth and renewal, strengthening partnerships with healthcare and industry providers and supporting curriculum development aligned with workforce and community needs and enhancing student outcomes. As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), she brings this experience to the University’s broader academic portfolio, supporting Southern Cross University’s commitment to innovative, high-quality education and student success through the Southern Cross Model.
