Southern Cross University has entered a new partnership with leading student accommodation specialist Campus Living Villages (CLV) for the ongoing management, refurbishment and expansion of its student accommodation in Lismore and Coffs Harbour.
Southern Cross University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Clark said the new arrangement would enhance the on-campus accommodation facilities and cater for growing demand.
“We support our high quality academic programs with convenient and secure on-campus accommodation. This important partnership with CLV will allow the University to focus on teaching and learning while strengthening our ability to offer a safe and caring environment for our students and provide for future growth in student numbers,” Professor Clark said.
From today (August 24), CLV will take over the management of the 373 student beds at the Lismore campus and 96 beds at the Coffs Harbour campus. CLV will spend more than $2 million upgrading the Lismore student colleges in a four-year refurbishment rollout.
The refurbishment will include the provision of wireless internet connections to all student bedrooms, upgrades to fire and safety systems, painting and bathroom improvements, along with landscaping around Orion College.
The University will also be seeking planning approval to extend Lismore’s Magellan College, adding accommodation for approximately 252 students. It will also seek planning approval for a 100-bed extension to Carina College in Coffs Harbour.
Martin Earp, CLV’s chief executive officer Australia, said CLV had more than 18 years experience in the development, financing and operation of student accommodation.
“CLV brings extensive expertise to universities to help them develop and manage their student accommodation,” Mr Earp said.
“CLV currently manages or is developing approximately 50,000 beds on more than 50 university campuses worldwide. CLV has a strong track record in providing quality, tailored accommodation for tertiary institutions in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and United Kingdom.
“At CLV, we provide much more than a room. A key element of our success is our tailor-made student life programs. Each of our villages offer a range of residential programs which help foster a sense of community.
“We are very excited to be working with Southern Cross University and look forward to making a positive and long-term commitment to the University’s student accommodation at Lismore and Coffs Harbour.”
