Fieldwork at Southern Cross University

Southern Cross University staff and students undertake a range of fieldwork activities for study, research and other university purposes. Fieldwork guidelines and procedures ensure that fieldwork activities are adequately planned to protect the health and safety of staff, students, volunteers and the wider community.

Please refer to the flowchart below for the steps in obtaining approval for your fieldwork.

Risk Assessment and Guidelines

An approved Fieldwork Risk Assessment (FWRA) form is required before any fieldwork takes place within Australia or overseas. The FWRA  includes a safety risk assessment where hazards are identified and appropriate risk reduction procedures are considered and implemented. The FWRA also provides a record of important contact information you may need if an incident occurs. A copy of this form must be taken into the field with you and a copy should also be given to the designated contact person/s (digital copies are acceptable).

Refer to the Fieldwork Risk Assessment Guidelines for further information and assistance in completing the FWRA.
