Unit description

Develops understanding of the technical, commercial and financial elements required to successfully tender for projects. Students will develop a working knowledge of estimating methods, quantity takeoffs, costs, and price determination, in addition to learning the importance of non-cost based components and considerations and evaluation of tenders. A scenario-based learning approach is used to guide students in applying the knowledge and skills developed throughout their studies to complete a real industry-based engineering project tender.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1design a program of investigation to address a well-defined engineering problem for a tender
2produce detailed costing and work schedules for a tender
3develop a skills and competency matrix for a team to meet the tender requirements
4identify and evaluate emerging trends and issues as part of a tender.
