Unit description

This unit examines the context of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander Knowledge and other Indigenous Knowledge in different places on Country and presents Indigenous Knowledge as a way of knowing from which a relational experience of our world emerges. Students will explore frameworks for successfully engaging with Elders' understanding of Country and learn respect for living knowledge as a positive promotion of Indigenous understandings.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1develop effective applications for Aboriginal cultural principles and culturally safe systems that engage with Elders and Traditional Owners ways of knowing
2critically analyse frameworks that support visual relatedness and storytelling to transform diversity into learning shared by a group
3respectfully design models for engaging with Elders and Traditional Owners that will ensure ethical sharing of knowledge

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
