This unit equips students with foundation knowledge and skills to apply principles of UX design and best practices in analysing and evaluating user-interface design and interactive content from an end-user's perspective. It prepares students for more complex design tasks of building user-friendly interactive and immersive software applications.

Unit content

Module 1. User interface design and psychology of UX
Module 2. Design-thinking and user-centred design
Module 3. User Interfaces for web
Module 4. User Interfaces for interactive/immersive applications
Module 5. Designing effective feedback and interactivity
Module 6. Designing with emerging technologies

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1apply principles of UX design to analyse and evaluate the user interface of an interactive application.
2apply design-thinking processes and user-centred evaluation methods to meet design requirements.
3produce and present documentation to communicate an UX design product to multiple stakeholders.
4design and prototype the user-interface for interactive applications in a team-based environment using emerging technologies, multimedia software and tools.
