Unit description

Guides students through essential processes in designing and developing immersive interactive applications for different operating environments using virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies. The unit equips students with knowledge and skills to select and utilise appropriate immersive interactive technologies and platforms to maximise the user experience.

Unit content

Module 1. Introduction to immersive technologies
Module 2. Setup and elements of immersive environments
Module 3. Immersive interactions and feedback  
Module 4. Case study - Augmented Reality
Module 5. Case study - Virtual Reality
Module 6. Case study - Mixed Reality

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1discuss challenges and solutions in designing immersive interaction applications for different operating environments.
2investigate requirements and prepare the development environment for developing immersive interaction applications.
3evaluate and select appropriate immersive interaction technologies and platforms for maximising the user experience.
4design and develop immersive interactive applications in a team-based environment using appropriate immersive interactive technologies.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
