Unit description
Supports students to strengthen their skills and knowledge related to effective teamwork and professional development of self and others. It supports the continued development and translation of theory into the practice of midwifery for women, their babies, and families. This unit supports students in their preparation for entry to employment as a new graduate midwife. Students will align their practice with the NMBA Midwife standards for practice. This unit is the first of two units comprising a year-long placement.
Unit content
- Recognition and response to the deteriorating maternal patient or neonate
- Creating woman-midwife partnerships through all models of maternity care, focusing on continuity of care models
- The Midwife’s scope of practice: inter-professional roles and responsibilities to facilitate preparation for entry to employment as a new graduate midwife
- Provision of safe and quality health care
- ANMAC Midwifery Professional Experiences (MPE) requirements
