Unit description

This unit introduces students to occupations and occupational therapy. The unit will explore occupational therapy professional values and beliefs, philosophical bases, foundational concepts, models and scope of practice. This units lays the foundation for professional behaviours, communication, documentation skills and reflective practice required for occupational therapy practice.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe the philosophy, scope and process of occupational therapy in Australia

analyse and explain the relationship between occupations, health and wellbeing

apply occupational therapy theoretical models and frameworks to low complexity scenarios

demonstrate ethical practice, professional written and verbal communication skills and behaviours appropriate to occupational therapy practice

You are required to wear fully enclosed footwear at all times in the laboratory rooms. Should you arrive wearing inappropriate shoes, you will be asked to leave the laboratory until you have sourced shoes that are fully enclosed.

You are required to wear the SCU Health Placements Uniform for the Viva Assessment.
