Unit description

This unit introduces students to occupations and occupational therapy. The unit will explore occupational therapy professional values and beliefs, philosophical bases, foundational concepts, models and scope of practice. This units lays the foundation for professional behaviours, communication, documentation skills and reflective practice required for occupational therapy practice.

  4. Occupational Therapy evaluation – analysis and synthesis

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1describe the philosophy, scope and process of occupational therapy in Australia
2analyse and explain the relationship between occupations, health and wellbeing
3apply occupational therapy theoretical models and frameworks to low complexity scenarios
4demonstrate ethical practice, professional written and verbal communication skills and behaviours appropriate to occupational therapy practice

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  2. analyse and explain the relationship between occupations, health and wellbeing
  3. apply occupational therapy theoretical models and frameworks to low complexity scenarios
