Unit description
Students explore assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of a diverse range of clients in various settings as an entry level clinician. Students will apply entry level reasoning to clients with co-occurring conditions to formulate evidenced-based assessment and treatment plans through application of the Professional Standards for Speech Pathologists in Australia (2020).
Unit content
- Assessment and reporting of communication and swallowing needs for clients with co-occurring conditions
- Planning, implementation and evaluation of speech pathology intervention for clients with co-occurring conditions
- Engaging in learning with colleagues, students and the community
- Clinical decision making and speech pathology practice for individuals and communities
- The speech pathologist as advocate for optimal communication and swallowing
- Ethical and evidence-based practice: complying with legislation, standards, policies and protocols to provide safe and high-quality services
