Unit description

Students participate in 96hrs of work integrated learning for up to 12 weeks to demonstrate mostly independent application of acquired knowledge, skills and attributes when practicing speech pathology with paediatric and adult clients. Students compile evidence of entry level competence for both paediatric and adult populations to be showcased through the development of an online professional portfolio.

  1. Creating the professional portfolio 
  2. Establishing a community of practice
  3. Collecting quality artefacts for the professional portfolio
  4. Writing critical reflections for the professional portfolio
  5. Monitoring the development of and applying feedback to the professional portfolio
  6. Facilitating a community of practice to support learning

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1demonstrate mostly independent application of acquired knowledge, skills and attributes when practicing speech pathology in a work integrated environment
2compile a portfolio of evidence to support claims for entry level competence in relation to the Competency-Based Occupational Standards of Speech Pathology and/or the Professional Standards for Speech Pathology in Australia

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

  1. demonstrate mostly independent application of acquired knowledge, skills and attributes when practicing speech pathology in a work integrated environment
  2. compile a portfolio of evidence to support claims for entry level competence in relation to the Competency-Based Occupational Standards of Speech Pathology and/or the Professional Standards for Speech Pathology in Australia
