Unit description

Investigates pedagogical theory relating to the teaching of games and sports. Students will explore effective pedagogy in the teaching of games through a Game Centred Approach, Game Sense and Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU). Students will explore a range of sports, how they align with the Game Sense categories and the best practice for teaching games and sports.

Module 3: Inclusivity and Differentiation
Module 4: Lesson Planning using Games Sense
Module 5: A Community for the Contemporary HPE teacher
Module 6: Towards Lifelong Physical Activity

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
1evaluate educational games and sports experiences in accordance with PDHPE syllabus requirements
2apply the principles of movement studies through effective pedagogies in the school context
3demonstrate understanding of effective assessment techniques used to evaluate performance in games based approaches
4identify and demonstrate knowledge, understanding and skills relating to teaching games and sports with appropriate curriculum links to the PDHPE Syllabus

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
