Unit description

This unit exposes students to key planning techniques and technologies to manage the agricultural and natural capital of a farming system. They will develop knowledge in how to harness contextual factors for improved productivity, while also planning safeguards against climate and market variability.

Module 1: Frameworks for working with agricultural and natural capital.

Module 2: Mapping geographic and agricultural elements.

Module 3: Digital technologies in agricultural planning.

Module 4: Implementation of sustainable practices.

Module 5: Climate data for farm decision making.

Module 6: Planning for profitability.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

interpret the geographic and agricultural elements of a farming system

apply appropriate digital technologies to design a farm plan

evaluate data sources for evidence- based decision making in farm planning

justify proposed farming strategies using the production, environmental and economic benefits they generate.
