Unit description

Explore the cell as the fundamental unit of life by detailing the structure, mechanism, and function of its molecular components and organelles. Foundational Cell Biology provides essential foundational knowledge in cell biology, preparing students for advanced studies in molecular biology, physiology, and pathology. Students will also connect core cellular principles to practical applications, gaining insights into techniques used in cell biology and the interpretation of quantitative laboratory data.

Cells as the fundamental unit of life
Molecular foundations of cell architecture
The endomembrane system and protein trafficking
Membrane transport, receptors, and signalling
Cellular metabolism and respiration
Cellular responses to stimuli - division, survival, movement, and death

Learning outcomes
