Enrolment information

Students MUST complete or be concurrently studying their second Teaching Area content units prior to enrolling in this unit. This is a Capstone unit requiring students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in second teaching areas such as Textiles Design, Design & Technology (any material specialisation), or Industrial Technology.

Unit description

This unit extends students’ disciplinary knowledge and capabilities by engaging them in the design, planning and realisation of a substantial technology project within their teaching specialisation. Students apply and evaluate WHS and risk-management practices, analyse design processes and develop a professional project portfolio that documents decision-making and realisation stages. The unit strengthens students’ ability to justify evidence-based design decisions appropriate for senior school technology contexts.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

plan and design a major technology project aligned with the student’s teaching area and realise the concept through an appropriate design process

apply and evaluate WHS and risk-management practices throughout the project

analyse and document design and realisation processes in a professional project portfolio

critically appraise the project and justify design decisions using evidence-based design and technology principles relevant to their chosen discipline area
