Please note: nominations for the 2023 Alumni Impact Awards are now closed
Earlier: Do you know a Southern Cross graduate doing incredible things in the community or in their field of endeavour? Nominations are now open for the Southern Cross University 2023 Alumni Impact Awards.
The awards celebrate the achievements of graduates and the transformative ways they are driving change on local and global scales.
Alumni will be recognised for their accomplishments across five categories, including Alumnus of the Year, Young Alumnus of the Year, International Alumnus of the Year, Early Career Alumnus of the Year and Community Impact Alumnus of the Year.
Southern Cross University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tyrone Carlin, said the inspiring stories of graduates deserve to be honoured.
“The calibre of our graduates is what makes Southern Cross a globally recognised university. It is a privilege to share their successes and celebrate their achievements.
“I strongly encourage our University community to nominate an outstanding alumnus for the Alumni Impact Awards.”
The 2022 Alumnus of the Year Award was presented to Matthew Hoare in recognition of his efforts to improve mental health outcomes for veterans through the Association of Veteran Surfers, an initiative that he co-founded.
In winning the 2022 award, Matthew said surfers have a strong camaraderie that many veterans can relate to. “Out there with a few mates, it is therapeutic. It alleviates stresses and troubles and can bring a sense of renewal that is affirming,” Mr Hoare said.
“And now, through surfing, I am sharing my passion and my qualifications in exercise physiology with other veterans as a way to connect and to help them move forward with hope and healing.”
Alumni can be nominated across multiple categories. Award recipients for each category will receive $1,000 prizemoney.
