This checklist will have you covered - from who's who to what to do - and is designed to help guide your way as you settle in.

  • Commence working through the content of our Induction for New Staff course within our Learning Management System (LMS), Scout.
  • There may be additional Faculty or Work Unit specific training that you may be required to do. Your Supervisor will arrange this for you.

Explore courses at your own pace to support your development.
  • Find out more about our Purpose and Values, information about our different locations and download campus maps for Gold Coast, Northern Rivers and Coffs Harbour.

On your first day, you will need to obtain a Staff ID Card. This card should be carried with you at all times while on any University campus. It is also used to gain library borrowing rights and approved after-hours access to University buildings.

Take your photo identification (eg your driver's license) to one of the following locations and your ID Card will be printed for you, or contact idcard@scu.edu.au for assistance.

  • Coffs Harbour - Student Centre (Ground Floor, M Block)
  • Gold Coast - The Shared Services Hub
  • Lismore - The Student Centre, Goodman Plaza

Staff must display a valid parking permit on their vehicle dash to park on University grounds. Please refer to the University's Parking Permit Program to ensure you are issued with a valid parking permit.

Month 1 will provide you with the foundational knowledge about our organisation, your team and how your role contributes to the University’s purpose.

Ensure you complete the following mandatory training in Scout by the end of Month 1:

If you are also a Supervisor, complete the following additional modules:

At Southern Cross University, we believe every conversation matters. Part of our Outstanding People strategy involves building a culture of feedback.  The University’s feedback framework is called ‘Momentum’. If you haven’t already, log-in to the Momentum page and review the content within. You might notice you’ve already had a few check-in conversations! The end of month one is the perfect opportunity for an ‘alignment’ conversation; discuss training, development opportunities, ask questions and set goals for the months to come. If applicable, your Supervisor will document this alignment conversation through your first probationary meeting if this applies to you - using this form: Probation report - professional employees. Academic employees have a three year probationary period so while the month one conversation may not be a formal probationary meeting, this form might still help inform the conversation: Probation report - academic employees.

Month 3-6 will see you settling into your role, learning SCU’s systems, processes and avenues for support or help when you need it.

For new fixed-term or continuing professional employees, you will normally serve a 6 month probationary period, with probationary reviews conducted at appropriate intervals in between.

A Probation report - professional employees will be completed prior to the end of your probationary period. If you are a new academic appointee, a probationary period of three years applies.

While this marks the end of your official onboarding journey, this isn’t the end of your learning journey! Head to Scout for more online or face-to-face courses that are relevant to you and your role, and be sure to share your career goals and development aspirations with your Supervisor so they can help you succeed!
