Unit description
Builds upon Visual Arts: Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy I to extend students’ understanding of secondary teaching in the Visual Arts. Students focus the Years 11–12 syllabuses within the continuum of learning. The unit encourages critical engagement with the role, value, requirements and current issues in the Visual Arts. Students design lessons, assessments, resources and activities related to units from the various Visual Arts syllabi. There is also an opportunity to reflect critically on contemporary perspectives and issues in the teaching of Visual Arts in senior secondary schools. A range of pedagogical perspectives are utilised.

Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to: | |

1 | demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the knowledge of the Year 11/12 Visual Arts syllabi, including theory, research and the development of resources that link to informed and effective teaching and learning across the relevant syllabi |
2 | develop engaging units of work and lesson plans related to selected theoretical and practical content of Year 11 and 12 Visual Arts syllabi, demonstrating familiarity with the required outcomes, objectives, key competencies, general capabilities, cross curriculum areas |
3 | apply current pedagogical theory, and critically engage with a range of contemporary perspectives and issues related to teaching Visual Arts at Year 11/12 level to develop effective teaching and learning strategies that encourage students with a diversity of learning needs, styles and cultural backgrounds |
4 | identify and critically examine assessment and reporting procedures and strategies in the context of the Year 11 and 12 internal and external assessment frameworks |
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
