Unit description

This unit examines the practice of occupational therapy for individuals whose occupational performance has been impacted by a range of cognitive impairments. Students will develop theory driven and practical clinical reasoning skills to guide their approach to assessment and intervention for clients with cognitive impairments.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe theoretical frameworks of cognition and identify cognitive domains that affect occupational performance

individually and collaboratively analyse and document how occupational performance is impacted by cognitive impairment

develop appropriate client-centred goals to support occupational performance for people with cognitive impairment

design and evaluate evidence based occupational therapy interventions to enhance functional cognition required for occupational performance
