Unit description

This unit provides advanced and integrated knowledge of industrial robotics systems through a research-led, systems-based engineering framework. Students will exercise high-level autonomy and expert judgment to critically analyse, architect, and validate complex robotic solutions. Using a scenario-based learning approach, participants will synthesise skills in advanced kinematics, dynamic modelling, and strategic project management to resolve multifaceted engineering challenges, preparing them for technical leadership in the global robotics sector.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse, synthesise, and apply advanced manipulator kinematics and dynamics within systems-based engineering frameworks to solve complex industrial robotics challenges

develop and validate innovative robotic solutions through the critical evaluation and selection of advanced engineering methodologies, specialised tools, and research-informed approaches

apply expert judgement and professional accountability to strategically manage robotics projects, justifying technical and ethical decisions in global industrial contexts

critically analyse and synthesise high-fidelity models and simulations of robotic manipulators to optimize performance in non-linear and unpredictable real-world environments

synthesise advanced robotic programming paradigms to engineer sophisticated control solutions for complex, multi-domain industrial systems

design and develop complex autonomous robotic systems, integrating advanced control, perception, and decision-making frameworks, and communicate technical outcomes to diverse audiences.
