Unit Snapshot

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

analyse and apply advanced numerical-based engineering software to model, evaluate, and optimise engineering solutions in applied contexts

assess and creatively apply advanced engineering methods, techniques, tools and resources to formulate solutions to complex engineering problems

define, manage and justify the outcomes of a complex engineering project, communicating results to relevant stakeholders

critically evaluate and justify personal conduct and professional engineering performance in contributing to the successful delivery of a complex engineering project

critically analyse and apply the fundamental principles of computational fluid dynamics and the finite element method to evaluate modelling procedures in advanced engineering systems

develop and apply modelling procedures to create or import geometries, define materials, apply boundary conditions and loads, and generate suitable meshes for engineering analysis.
