OCCU5006 - Foundations of Occupational Therapy: Philosophy, Process and Participation

Unit description

This unit examines the diverse and evolving factors shaping contemporary occupational therapy practice within local and global contexts. Students will critically analyse ethical, cultural, and systemic influences on service delivery, including professional reasoning, interprofessional practice, cultural safety, and the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Emerging trends such as digital health, sustainability, planetary health, and assistive technologies will be explored alongside the funding systems that support Australian occupational therapy practice. Through case-based learning, reflective analysis, and collaborative problem solving, students will develop leadership and advocacy skills to influence policy, promote occupational justice, and design innovative, evidence-informed, and culturally responsive practices that enable participation and equity across diverse populations.

Learning outcomes

collaboratively design and justify equitable, client-centred strategies that enable participation and occupational justice through interprofessional practice and contemporary funding systems
