Unit of Study TCHR5019 Children, Families and Communities (2027)

Unit description

This unit is concerned with the complexity, diversity and changing nature of contemporary constructions of childhood and families within the community. The unit builds critical understandings regarding contemporary and diverse issues facing children, families and communities. Ecological Systems Theory (Bronfenbrenner) is applied to expand the knowledge and impact of historical, social, political, economic and environmental factors as an influence upon childhood. In this context pre-service teachers learn how to advocate for children and families using the principles of an anti-bias curriculum as social justice, equity, environmental sustainability, cultural responsiveness and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded throughout the unit.
