Unit Snapshot

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

compare and critique historical and contemporary constructions of childhood and families, including Aboriginal and Torres and Islander Perspectives

interrogate how children develop identity and teachers advocate for strength-based strategies to enhance equity, belonging, being, and becoming

critically analyse diverse issues affecting children, families and communities including social, economic, environmental and educational policies and their impact upon the provision of early childhood education and care services

apply professional communication skills to communicate effectively with families about the care and education of their child
